Leeteuk’s sister battles Jo Kwon in a ‘kkab’ dance-off for “Strong Heart”

The most recent episode of SBS’s “Strong Heart” guested a pair of celebrity siblings - Super Junior’s Leeteuk and his sister, Park In Young.
Leeteuk’s sister became the talk of the town after she revealed her unexpected silly side. Park In Young was showing off her sexy appearance in her one-piece dress and leggings, when she suddenly broke out into a hilarious ‘kkab‘ dance.
Park then engaged in a dance off with the King of ‘kkab‘ himself, 2AM’s Jo Kwon! Leeteuk, who was embarrassed about having his older sister on air with him from the very beginning, couldn’t take it anymore and shouted: “Nuna (older sister), don’t do that!” – bringing much laughter.
After the episode aired, viewers commented, “Her dance made even Jo Kwon’s dance look colorless” andLeeteuk’s reaction was funnier.”

SBS’s “Athena” suffers a drop in viewer ratings

SBS’s “Athena” suffered a sharp drop in viewer ratings due to the 2011 AFC Asian Cup semi-final clash between South Korea and Japan, which aired in the same time slot.
According to AGB Nielsen Media Research, the January 25th episode recorded only a 5.4% in viewer ratings, which is a 9.4% drop from its 14.8% record on the 24th.
Meanwhile, MBC’s “Queen of Reversals” recorded 13.8%.
But the 2011 AFC Asian Cup was not the only reason for the drama’s dismal ratings.

“Athena’s” main actors, Jung Woo Sung and Jung Chan Woo, suffered injuries from a recent car accident on set, forcing shooting to be stopped. The drama was thus forced to air a side story special, featuring behind-the-scenes footage as well as memorable scenes chosen by the cast themselves.

Meanwhile, the 2011 AFC Asian Cup recorded 37.7% in viewer ratings due to the intense match between South Korea and Japan. Korea’s dreams of winning first place crashed out after they lost 0-3 in the penalty shootout; the team had been locked in a 2-2 tie with Japan after extra time.

Korea will face Uzbekistan in the 3rd place playoff on January 28th after the latter was trashed 0-6 by Australia in the other semi-final. The final will take place a day later.

Dream High ranks in at #1!

Dream High” has ranked in as the #1 Monday and Tuesday night drama, even with hot competition from SBS’ “ATHENA“, starring some of Korea’s hottest actors (Jung Woo Sung and Soo Ae).
JYP and Bae Yong Joon have been able to create a remarkable synergy, and with leading roles played by 2PM’s Taecyeon and Wooyoung, miss A’s Suzy, Kim Soo Hyun, IU, and T-ara’s Eun Jung, it’s no surprise that this drama is on fire.
Viewers have been extremely impressed with everyone’s acting skills and as every episode airs, we at allkpop are getting hooked onto this drama even more.  So if you haven’t had a chance to check it out yet, you definitely should!
Additional plans include airing Dream High in over 5 countries, including Japan and China.

Super Junior’s Donghae injured while filming SBS’s “Lunar New Year Special”

Earlier this month, we reported that SBS was planning a special trip for 20 idols to Thailand, where they would record a “Lunar New Year Special” episode, participating in fun events.
While they were recording a game that the idols were playing, Super Junior’s Donghae fell off a platform and bruised up his face.
ELFs, no need to worry too much as Donghae has been reported to being just fine, and his minor injuries will naturally heal up in a matter of a couple weeks.

Heechul confirms that Super Junior has renewed contracts with SME

Amidst the contract controversies involving TVXQ/JYJ, Super Junior’s Hangeng and most recently Kara, SuJu member Heechul revealed today that he, along with his fellow members, have decided to renew their contracts with SM Entertainment.
On the January 19th radio broadcast of MBC’s Golden Fishery, Heechul stated, “Not long ago, I re-signed my contract with my agency.Kim Gu Ra inquired, “Is that good news?” and Yong Jong Shin enviously quipped, “It means he’s received a lump sum. A lump sum,” drawing laughter.
Heechul also revealed that the rest of Super Junior had also decided to re-sign their contracts with SM Entertainment last November on his SBS radio program, Kim Heechul’s Young Street. The idol expressed his faith in SME, stating, “A man must live with loyalty.”
Heechul isn’t the first SME artist to talk about their statuses with SME; a few weeks ago, fellow bandmate Siwon and singer BoA spoke up about their hard work as artists and discomfort with the term ’slave contract.’

SHINee’s Jonghyun received surgery on his left leg

News of SHINee’s Jonghyun receiving surgery on his leg were delayed in being reported to the media.
Jonghyun previously injured his left ankle on October of 2010, after the group was rushed by fans at the Jakarta airport upon their arrival. Although he thought it was okay, further examinations showed that he required surgery.
Jonghyun received surgery on his left leg at a hospital in Seoul on January 17th. Through Star News, a representative of SM Entertainment revealed on the 20th, “Jonghyun received surgery on the 17th, and it concluded safely. He’s currently in good condition.
Due to his recovery, he will not be performing at the “20th Seoul Music Awards” (scheduled for the 20th), and SHINee will be performing as a four-member group.

Leeteuk and Shindong release their trot track, “Please”

Super Junior’s Leeteuk and Shindong released a fun track titled, “Please“, for the Sunday Night show, “Enjoy Today.”
Like all of Super Junior’s trot songs, “Please” is quite hilarious. ELFs will be thrilled at getting to hear Shindong sing a lot more as well, something that is usually quite rare.
The song begins with a little sound sketch of Leeteuk and Shindong talking about ordering something, and then develops into a spunky track that seems to best fit the summer beaches.
By far, the best part of the track is when Shindong exclaims, “Oh, my baby! Oh, my lady! Yo come on come on come onnnn~~”

Super Junior’s Heechul celebrates Kangin’s birthday

Super Junior’s Heechul celebrated the birthday of fellow member Kangin, who is currently serving in the army.
Through his personal Twitter, the singer wrote on January 17th, “I landed in Korea and it’s my dongseng Kim Young Choon’s (nickname) birthday ^-^  Suddenly remembering ‘Kangin and Heechul’.” Heechul also uploaded a picture of Kangin alongside the tweet.
Fans commented in response, “Happy birthday~,” while wishing Kangin good luck and hoping that he completes his service safely.

Five idol taboos broken by the ‘Big Space Star’ Kim Heechul

Within five years of his debut, Super Junior’s Kim Heechul has not only skyrocketed to fame, but he’s also become a formidable star in the celebrity stratosphere.
Heechul first debuted as a member of Super Junior back in 2005, and caught everyone’s attention with his pretty boy looks.  Producers from the acting industry were quick to cast this handsome rookie, which eventually landed him a role in KBS’s “Banolim.” From the start of his career, Heechul doubled his potential by walking on dual paths as an actor and a singer.
But it’s not only his career choices alone that made his star rise.
Perhaps it’s because he was born in the natural and carefree city of Kwangwon-do, but Heechul has never hesitated to express his thoughts nor compromise his bright and outgoing personality. Although this soon became the reason why he’s developed a strong fanbase, it’s also given birth a lot of anti-fans as well.
Despite it all, he’s managed to reach the sixth year of his career today, and is still the same confident person fans fell in love with from the start; now the general public is finally beginning to recognize his genuine merit.
He’s managed to turn his antis into fans, all the while breaking the taboos laid against idol singers.  Star News came up with the ‘Top 5′ taboos that Heechul’s moved against, which are as follows:
1. He calls himself the ‘Big Space Star,’ and managed to go up against gagman Kim Gura.
Before the arrival of Heechul, the virtue of idols was strict modesty. Idols were expected to scream “No!” once complimented, whether it be for their looks, talents, or whatever else was being referred to.
But Heechul was different.  He confidently declared, “I am kind of handsome.“  Although this statement brought him many antis, his ‘consistent cockiness’ through the past five years has ironically engrained a sense of sincere honesty; something that even antis couldn’t argue against.
Now, when he declares himself as a ‘big space star’ on broadcast programs, nobody crinkles their face in disagreement, but laughs along, amused.
His confidence was even seen before Kim Gura, who’s notorious for his harsh remarks. Heechul regarded him with respect, while at the same time, expressing all that he wanted. Such confidence earned him an honorable high five from the gagman.
Heechul commented, “I’m not really a respectful child, but I never hide myself from others. It’s the same from when I addressed Gura-hyung.  He does give way for me a lot, but what I think is personally weird is that I’m a great fan of the harsh criticisms Gura and Myungsu-hyung dishes out.  Maybe because they’re confident as well? (laughter)”
2. The first voice imitation of SM’s Lee Soo Man, was of course, done by none other than Heechul.
Heechul’s fearlessness has made even SM representatives surprised over his actions. Moments after his debut, Heechul did a voice imitation of SM’s producer, Lee Soo Man, that not only surprised his manager, but representatives alike, as it was the first time any star attempted such an act.
He explained, “On a broadcast show, I did once imitate his voice.  I did it to have some fun, but my manager hyungs acted really shocked and discussed in length with the PDs about whether to let it go out on broadcast or not.  I called Lee Soo Man and asked, ‘I imitated your voice in a positive way. This can be aired, right?’  He said, ‘Sure, I trust that our Heechul is a respectful child.  I could say no, but that will make you do it more, so just let it air.’  Ever since then, many different SM stars have imitated his voice (laughter).”

3. Despite being an SM star, he’s often seen on broadcast programs saying, “YG and JYP, fighting!
The rivalry between the top three, SME, JYPE, and YGE, is known by any Korean music fan.  Although it’s a competition created with good will, artists have always been seen rooting for their own labels in public programs.
Asked about his favorite girl group member, Heechul didn’t choose an SM labelmate, but the Wonder GirlsSohee from JYPE.   SNSD’s Yoona later retorted, “Oppa, why do you only like Sohee?”  He replied back, “You’re closer with 2PM than you are with me!
Recently, at his “Young Street” radio program, he even sang a song from 1TYM and shouted out, “YG Family, peace! Fighting!“    Because fans know that he loves the SM family more than anyone else, they’re able to laugh off such cute antics in good humor.
4. Being an idol himself, he once claimed, “There’s too much idol music.  I hope band music makes a comeback.
Although he’s nearly 29 years old now, Heechul is still one of the representative idol figures.  But for such an idol to exclaim on a radio broadcast, “In our country’s broadcast industry, idol music is too strong.  I hope band music and other varieties of genres will receive much love as well.
As a radio DJ, he comes across not only popular music, but a wider variety of genres as well.  Through his experience, he claimed that he realized the only way for people to genuinely love and become interested in idol music is for other genres to receive just as much love.
5. The public easily understands why he calls himself BoA’s brother and labels IU as a “singer song student.”
It’s rare to see anyon treat Asia’s star, BoA, with such fearlessness because of her stature.  As you’ve guessed by now, Kim Heechul is the exception.  He once claimed on a radio show that BoA has impressive drinking skills, which BoA was able to laugh off because she knows his personality better than anyone else.  To music fans, they’ve become affectionately known as the ‘angry siblings.’
Heechul’s fearlessness doesn’t end there, though; his new target is the nation’s new little sister, IU.  Before IU hit it big with “Good Day,” she used to appear as a fixed guest on his radio program.  She received the nickname “singer song student” by Heechul, which he explained to mean a high school student with exceptional talents in music.
Heechul commented, “BoA is like my little sibling.  When we’re together, we treat each other with both warmth and swears (laughter).  And IU used to have a difficult time regarding me, but now she’s become a great little sister.  It might be hard to believe, but I do get shy around new people.  Even so, once I get close with someone, I stick by them until the end.  This personality has worked well in getting close with BoA and IU (laughter).”

Ticket sales for SuJu’s “The 3rd Asia Tour Super show 3 in Taipei” are a big hit

Super Junior has once again confirmed their explosive popularity in Taiwan through the heavy influx of sales for their two-day ‘The 3rd Asia Tour Super show 3 in Taipei’ concert, to be held on March 12th and 13th of 2011.
Ticket reservations were initially only restricted to people with memberships, but the reservations were all sold out after only a few days. Tickets for general fans without memberships began selling on January 10th.
Fans used ticket sale systems online and ticket shops to purchase their tickets, which quickly led to selling a total of 6000 tickets.
However, due to the vast influx of ticket orders, many fans are currently experiencing difficulties in trying to get hold of a concert ticket through the online ticket sales system. Fans have expressed their dissatisfaction with the concert management service, as the online system is taking $5 USD more than the original price.
“We lost control of the sudden situation and the ticket sales system is currently suffering some difficulties. We are cooperating the best we can to call each consumer regarding replacement tickets. The total number of admission tickets has not changed, and the concert has not yet been sold out,” stated a representative.
It seems like the chance of a fan getting hold of a ticket has been greatly reduced, as the representative said, “Currently, it is difficult for fans to purchase a concert ticket.”

Scramble to Hear SJ 6,000 Tickets Grabbed in Seconds Again

Super Junior’s charisma in Taiwan is at fever level
Korean boy band Super Junior will come to Taiwan on 12 and 13 March to hold “The 3rd ASIA TOUR SUPER SHOW 3 in Taipei”, following the opening of pre-sale of tickets the day before yesterday to Super Dome members when tickets were snapped up in an instant, with the opening of public sales to fans yesterday through the Era Ticket ticketing system and sale of tickets by FamilyMart, 6,000 tickets were completely sold out and grabbed in seconds, which demonstrates Super Junior’s super popularity and selling power.
A few days ago due to the ticketing system being overloaded there was “over-booking of tickets” at one point, the system was unable to accurately determine the people who had purchased tickets, the purchasing of these tickets were not completed and a 30 dollar fee was also charged, which made fans unhappy.  Super Dome stated: “due to the programme not working properly and at the same time the system being unable to determine the people who purchased tickets; we have already telephoned each person to communicate assistance in  purchasing tickets after the normal period; the total number of tickets for both concerts remains unchanged, excess tickets have not been sold at all.”  Many fans who were unable to purchase tickets are expecting an extra concert, however in relation to this Super Dome expressed that “at present there are no discussions of adding an extra concert.”

Kyuhyun interview with PlayDB Magazine “The Three Musketeers”

“The kid I’m looking for, you can’t see him easily and he’s able to see the wide world. He loves small grass leaves.”
When I was on my way back home from watching Kyuhyun’s debut stage as the clumsy country bumpkin D’Artagnan in The Three Musketeers, I thought of Camomile’s song The Kid I’m Looking For. Kyuhyun, the thirteenth member of Super Junior is currently working as a musical actor. The innocent young man Kyuhyun is living happily as D’Artagnan and has fallen in love with charms of musical curtain calls. Kyuhyun who says he’s “Now somewhat used to the highly technical ad libs from the sunbaes” started the interview with his feeling about his musical debut claiming, “For the first four performances, I was getting angry with myself.”
With <The Three Musketeers> as the start, you began your musical career.
I did my first performance on December 21st. Including the afternoon performances, I did four performances for three days in a row. At that time, I got angry with myself. I regretted it thinking, “Why did I do it like that?” In the beginning, I didn’t fully understand and I was swamped. Fortunately, because there were people who encouraged me, I’m able to stand here today. Now, I have my own character and I don’t know about compliments, but I don’t get angry with myself anymore. (laughs)
You need to do ad libs during the musical. I’m sure there are many occasions when unexpected things happen.
There’s a scene where D’Artagnan goes down to the audience to complete the missions in order to become a musketeer. At first, I simply did ad libs. One time, I got a mission saying that I have to kiss an audience member. I was thinking about what to do and in the end, I couldn’t do it and just returned to the stage. Now, I have my own method. I can do anything and everything now. (laughs) One time, during the scene where Jussac and D’Artagna have a duel, the audio went out. At that moment, I was thinking, “Is this a rehearsal?” So, I was going to ask, “Hyung, what are we going to do?” But before doing that, I thought, “Ah, I shouldn’t do that!” So, I just started. The sunbaes told me that I did good. (laughs) I think that I can react to situations more quickly now.
There are a lot of reviews saying, “Kyuhyun was D’Artagnan.”
Didn’t fans write that? I often read performance reviews and there are three types of reviews. Half of them are my fans complimenting me and half of them are people who love musicals. There are also people who comment that it was either unexpectedly good or that there are big differences between me and the other actors. On the days when I think I did badly or I’m really tired doing The Three Musketeers, I read reviews from the fans. They really give me strength because it makes me think, “Even with this performance, they are cheering me on.” Some audiences said that they didn’t expect many things because an idol singer was going to appear. But after seeing the musical, they said it was unexpectedly good. Others pointed out that I have bad vibrations and that my vocalization is not suited for musicals.
I’ve heard that even veteran actors don’t read reviews they are demoralizing.
Of course I get hurt sometimes. But I know they are a big help to me. There are a lot of people who leave malicious comments about me. Those who leave malicious comments and attack some other aspects about me regardless of whether I sing, act or appear on variety shows. But the audiences who write musical reviews give me advice after watching my musical performances. They are not people who just hate me. They talk about things that they didn’t like after seeing my performance. I like them because I can learn about things I need to fix.
Did you ever see other D’Artagnan’s (Uhm Kijoon, Kim Mooyeol and Jay) performance?
I really wanted to see them all, but I was only able to see Mooyeol hyung’s D’Artagnan because of my schedule. I saw it before starting my first performance. I learned a lot from it thinking, “Hyung interpreted it like that.” It’s amazing because each scene is different the way the actors interpret it differently. When I saw the performance, it was more like watching Kim Mooyeol’s The Three Musketeers and following his movement rather than watching the musical The Three Musketeers. (laughs)
I’m sure there were big burdens on you.
It was difficult at first for a lot of reasons. It wasn’t like I got the role through an audition. Also, I got a big role in my first work that I felt sorry and burdensome. So, I worked hard and the sunbaes saw that and helped me a lot. Mooyeol hyung even came to the practice room when he didn’t need to and he taught me everything after watching me practice.
There are a lot of veteran actors including Kim Bubrae and Seo Bumsuk.
Bumsuk hyung told me to just talk loudly. I normally talk softly and he told that I can’t do that in musicals. He told me to talk loudly even if the line says I have to speak softly. (laughs) I was really confused and Kim Bubrae sunbaenim told me to stand still. He said if the actor’s nervous, the audience will become more nervous. He told me not to look so nervous even if I am. When I was practicing, after each scene, the sunbaenims came and coached me on how to do the scenes.
Ah, sounds like it must have caused a lot of stress. (laughs)
Not at all. When I heard that I was cast in The Three Musketeers, I was thinking if I should learn acting separately. Suju member Yesung hyung said, “Being taught in the practice room by the hyungs who do musicals are the most accurate.” I was worried thinking, “What if they don’t want to teach me?” But the sunbaes taught me closely that it was really good.
Singing was more easy, right?
I received a lot of criticism for my singing as well. (laughs) I still had my habit that I had singing on Gayo stage. When I sing, I have to act too. But I received some comments that I only sing. That was difficult. If I want to continue working as a musical actor, that problem is something I have to solve.
Doing the musical, when were you most proud of yourself?
Super Junior is a group that has more than 10 members. (laughs) Since I’m the maknae, I didn’t receive a lot of spotlight. With the musical, I receive a lot of spotlight. So, in that aspect I like it. (laughs) I can’t forget the feeling of inspiration I received in my first performance. Curtain calls are touching with every performance. In that moment when I’m saying hello, it feels like I’m Kyuhyun and not D’Artagnan. There’s also a feeling of “I did it” that I get overwhelmed. When I stand on stage as D’Artagnan, it’s really fun. I think it’s more more fun doing musical than singing on stage as a singer. (laughs) I think it was really a good decision to do the musical.
I’ve heard that Composer Yoo Youngsuk said, “You are a genius. Where did you come from?” It was a late discovery of Kyuhyun.
Sigh. I’m not a genius or anything like that. Yoo Youngsuk sunbaenim helped making Super Junior’s third album. During that time, he paid close attention to me. Before the third album, you couldn’t see me because the members who primarily danced stood in the front while the members who sang stood in the back. After the third album, Sorry Sorry, I sang in the front and there were many opportunities to show myself on the variety programs.
Vocal trainer Park Sunjoo said, “I saw Kyuhyun’s potentials first” which received a lot of interest.
I was always interested in singing as I was the band vocal in my middle school. Before becoming a singer, I tried out for a singing competition called Buddy Buddy Gayo Contest to win the reward money. (laughs) I met teacher Park Sunjoo through that contest. The sunbaenim wanted to work with me. So, I just said yes and waited for her. Afterward, SM contacted me, but I told them that I have already decided to work with teacher Park Sunjoo and kept waiting for her to contact me. But that was when she was singing A Man And A Woman with Kim Bumsoo sunbaenim. I couldn’t get in touch with her. Finally, I contacted SM and asked if they are still willing to accept me. That’s how I joined Super Junior. (laughs)
What kind of a singer or a musical actor do you want to be?
I don’t think now is the time for me to discuss what kind of a singer or a musical actor I want to be. (Yesung told me he really wants to do Jekyll and Hyde.) I think it’s too rash to think about that now. Haha. I have to focus on my singing career and if I’m given the chance to do another muscial, I’m going to do it with full of passion. Now, I’m only thinking about The Three Musketeers because I think I can do other work later. If I did a good job, wouldn’t other producers hire me? If there’s no talk about that when I’m done with The Three Musketeers. Hmm~(laughs) I want to finish The Three Musketeers well!
